Chris, thank you for having a look. I currently do not have an external
monitor at my disposal. I shall update this ticket once I do which could
be a few months from now.

Title:
[pineviewgm] windows don't fully maximize in certain dual-head setups

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xorg

I have an ASUS 1001P netbook (resolution 1024x600) to which I attach
an external display with a resolution of 1680x1050. Under the
following conditions windows do not fully maximize:

  a) internal display below external display
  b) displays not fully aligned vertically but with an offset both left and
right

If those conditions are met then windows on the external diplay do not
maximize any longer. They do maximize vertically but not
horizontally. I believe they extend to the right edge of the internal
(display). So, let's say the internal display has an offset of one
pixel from the external display. This triggers the bug. Both
displays are almost aligned left, but only almost. Looking at the
maximized windows on the external displays it seems as if they start
  at 1024+1 pixel horizontally.
