A small box appears below the nautilus window containing the search text. In the nautilus currently in 11.10b1, the search box disappears while I am typing. It doesn't seem to be a focus issue because nautilus is focused the whole time. It varies betweend disappearing almost instantly, or after a second, but in either case it is very rapid, too rapid to type a full filename.
