Is the result of "Capturing print job data" correctly displayed by evince? Does "lpr prinbtout" print it correctly? What format is the result of "Getting the data which would go to the printer"? You can find it out running the command "file printout". If it is PostScript or PDF, can you display it with evince? Can you print it with "lpr -oraw printout"? If it is PostScript or PDF, please also follow the instructions of the section "PostScript (PDF) printer chokes on the PostScript (PDF) coming from Ubuntu" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems.
