Fixed after both deinstalling pidgin-libnotify AND rm ~/.config/indicators/messages/applications-blacklist/pidgin-libnotify

If you click the exit button, Ubuntu will ask you if you want to Force quit. Reproduce: 1) sudo apt-get install pidgin 2) If you don't already have an IM account setup (in pidgin), launch pidgin and set up at least one IM account. 3) Super Key > type "startup" (no quotes), and select "Startup Applications" icon. 4) Click the "Add" button. 5) Type "pidgin" as the name, and also enter "pidgin" for the command (no quotes), then click the add button. 6) Close "Startup Applciations" and reboot your computer. After logining in, the buddy-list-window will open but it will be in locked and grayed-out state.
