Worked for me, too. I ran

  $ sudo apt-get purge evolution
  $ sudo apt-get autoclean

I then installed evolution (from the Software Centre) and restarted (to
ensure all the Evo' related daemons were restarted).

  The problem is that if I open Evolution it displays my mails and then
  closes immediately. I cannot do anything ie open a mail, make a back
  up etc. It doesnt give me a chance to.

  michael@Home:~$ lsb_release -rd
  Description:  Ubuntu 13.04
  Release:      13.04

  2 - Evolution version:
