Description of the problem: Libre office generates a "General input/outup error." when attempting to modify and save a document on UBUNTU 12.04LTS if the same document is open in paralel in windows as Read only. 2. Ubuntu release, software version, Release Number and Architecture of the selected components. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Windows 8 (probaly any windows would generate the error) SMB share as storage (does not matter if its created by windows or linux) Libreoffice 3.x or 4.x 3. How reproducible is the problem? Always 4. Steps to Reproduce: 4.1 Create a SMB share on windows or ubuntu 4.2 Create a libreoffice document on the samba share 4.3 Open document ⓐ Ubuntu (this will open it as RW) 4.4 Open the same document ⓐ on Windows (this will open it as RO) 4.5 Modify document ⓐ on Ubuntu 4.6 Try to save document ⓐ a. Actual Results: When attempting to save the cument in step 4.6 you will get the following errors 2 x Error_saving_document.png 1 x General_input_output_error.png b. Expected Results: We should be able to save the document on ubuntu will its open in paralel as Read Only. We do get the expected behavior when we first open the document as RW on windows and then open it a RO on ubuntu. 5. Known Workaround: None, well one could argue that making a copy of the document before opening it is a work around (but for some situations this is not suitable) 6. Business Impact and customer deadlines: Hard to say, although this issue has the potential to generate data lost, a well informed customer should be able to avoid the issue by first making a copy of the file. 7. Additional information: I will be adding details of all the test performed as well as extra support data within my next few updates.
