Public bug reported:

I am running kubuntu 13.10 on a hp 8760w laptop
lspci identifies the soundcard as
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family
High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)

plugging in headphones causes the Master channel to drop to zero rather
than the PCM channel, also when a new sound source connects to pulse-
audio the pcm and master volumes switch. (I am using the kde mixer
applet - to check the channels)

** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
