Hmm, it is still being reported by xrandr, so all hope is not lost.

Can you try "xrandr --output LVDS1 --preferred" and see what happens?

Title:
In 13.10, internal laptop display no longer functioning in graphical
mode after plugging into external projector

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Even after reboot, the display manager does not allow me to include my
laptop's own display in the desktop.

After upgrading and updating (13.10), I was using my external monitor
and everything was great but after just plugging into a projector, the
internal display went off and now I cannot get it to turn back on,
even with my external monitor that was working previously.

By the way, using the Fn-F7 key on my keyboard, which looks like it
might switch between viewing modes, just rotates the external image
but does not cycle through anything that includes the internal
  display.
