I downgraded to Thunderbird 17 ESR which is able to run Lightning 1.9.1. This work-around will work for me until Mozilla / OpenSUSE can get a newer version of Thunderbird / Lightning working with 12.3.
For someone like me stumbling across this bug and spending most of a day to solve the problem, here is how to install Thunderbird 17 ESR in OpenSUSE 12.3 x64: 1. Start YaST and add http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_12.3/ to the "Software Repositories" 2. Use "Software Management" to uninstall Thunderbird 24.0 (click until a red X is showing, and let it resolve conflict by deleting the library it complains about). Then press Accept and trust YaST to do its thing. 3. Use "Software Management" again to select Thunderbird ESR 17.0.9 install. Let it download / install. 4. Go to Thunderbird ESR 17.0.9 Add-ons and remove Lighting 2.6.1 (it doesn't work with ESR 17.0.9) 5. Find Lighting in the Add-ons (not easy); Search for "Lighting", it won't show in the list. At the bottom of the Add-ons page click on "Show all 46 Results". Lighting will be grayed out saying it's not compatible with ESR 17.0.9. Click in the word "Lighting". Scroll the window down until you see: ===================================================== Lighting 1.9.1 for Thunderbird 17 is available here ===================================================== Click on "is available here". Move your mouse into the "Version 1.9.1" box area and a Green "+ Add to Thunderbird" will appear. Click on this green button and Lightning will install. Restart Thunderbird and lighting should be working again. Now you can go back to being a happy OpenSUSE Linux user and do some real work, making everybody happy until a solution can be found. ;) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1244619 Title: Thunderbird must be upgraded to Thunderbird 24.0.1 for lightning 2.6.1 Status in Lightning extension: Confirmed Status in “lightning-extension” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “thunderbird” package in Gentoo Linux: Fix Released Status in “thunderbird” package in openSUSE: Confirmed Bug description: Since the upgrade of Lightning 2.6.0 to Lightning 2.6.1, this extension need Thunderbird 24.0.1 but Ubuntu only give Thunderbird 24.0.0 https://blog.mozilla.org/calendar/2013/10/dont-upgrade-to-thunderbird-24-0-1-yet/ "Update 4: Lightning 2.6.1 is now public.
