Agree with you Scott, but as its now the "rule" (seems to be a decision made some times ago), then you should not try to backport that always failing job:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/3.13.9-1~ubuntu12.04.1/+build/5112898 and stop/remove it from the job's queue (as it try to rebuilt a few times a day, every day) or bypass that rule. ** Changed in: hplip (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to hplip in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1248188 Title: backported package fails to build due to lp:888665 if it needs an other backported package Status in “hplip” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since NotAutomatic is enabled for backports (>= natty), backports can't build-depend on other backports anymore. meaning it cant use pyppd backported package, then always fails to build https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/888665 (still not fixed) https://bugs.launchpad.net/precise-backports/+bug/1241246 (marked as "released", but fails to build again & again since a few days) So HPLIP cant be backported from Saucy to Precise.
