Doing this manually in a terminal did a succesful suspend

$ dbus-send --print-reply --system --dest=org.freedesktop.UPower
/org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Suspendmethod return
sender=:1.22 -> dest=:1.712 reply_serial=2

  Nothing happens when I do suspend, reboot to fix

  When I manually do suspend from the top bar, nothing happens. This can
  happen after it has worked for a number of days.

  Then I need to reboot and then it works again.
