Yes another Ubuntu bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/1208019 It looks like the Ubuntu global menu is too buggy/limited to play nicely with Eclipse in some circumstances. So the workaround is to not use it. However, this will cause an issue with GTK3 implementation in Ubuntu: bug 417601
