Could you try to blacklist the i2c_hid module? You can do that by "echo blacklist i2c_hid > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_i2c_hid.conf" and then reboot. This works for me on Fedora...., so might not work for you.
It looks to be related to this bug which is actually caused by the touchscreen. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1218973 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263319 Title: Touchpad not detected on Dell XPS 13 (9333) Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Fedora: New Bug description: The touchpad on my Dell XPS 13 9333 is detected as "PS/2 Generic Mouse". I was previously running 12.04 which came with the laptop, and the touchpad worked fine. I upgraded to 13.10 by booting from USB and choosing the upgrade option which retains user settings (hence the stuff about /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad). xinput --list: ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ SYNAPTICS Synaptics Large Touch Screen id=9 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ DLL060A:00 06CB:2734 id=11 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouse id=13 [slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Integrated_Webcam_HD id=10 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=12 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Dell WMI hotkeys id=14 [slave keyboard (3)] Devices with mouse handlers from /proc/bus/input/devices: I: Bus=0018 Vendor=06cb Product=2734 Version=0100 N: Name="DLL060A:00 06CB:2734" P: Phys= S: Sysfs=/devices/pci0000:00/INT33C3:00/i2c-0/0-002c/input/input7 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse1 event7 B: PROP=0 B: EV=17 B: KEY=30000 0 0 0 0 B: REL=3 B: MSC=10 I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000 N: Name="PS/2 Generic Mouse" P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0 S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input13 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse2 event13 B: PROP=0 B: EV=7 B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0 B: REL=3 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.7.1-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-14.21-generic 3.11.7 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-14-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat Dec 21 11:35:10 2013 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: saucy DistroVariant: ubuntu MachineType: Dell Inc.
