Hua Yanghao, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg <replace-with-bug-number> Thank you for your understanding. Machine: i5-2500K + Z68 chipset Monitor: 42" TV, HDMI The problem did not exist when using 12.04. When upgraded to 12.10, sometimes (> 70%) during boot up it says "the system is running in low graphics mode" and the login screen won't even show up. The problem for 12.04 is that the screen resolution can only go up to 1366x768, but 12.10 can go with 1400x900 (however my TV actually support 1920x1080p. I installed everything from the default ubuntu repositories, no thirdparty graphics drivers installed. And I guess the Intel graphics driver is already in the mainline kernel? one more thing, if I goes to command line, and type "sudo service lightdm restart", I can still enter the desktop, so the problem seems not like a persistent one, more like some kind of timing issue (that's probably why it is not happening every time).
