I find it very handy to have nethogs, but i would be much nicer to see

  functionality?)

Status in The GNOME System Monitor:
  New
Status in “gnome-system-monitor” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

System Monitor should be able to show per-process network usage (and
hard drive usage, for that matter)

Network usage might be able to incorporate functionality from Nethogs
  http://nethogs.sourceforge.net/

  (Based on http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/12915/ )
