The behavior still happens - on reboot with dual monitors, one monitor gets no signal while the other has the screen shifted by half and purple dot background filling the rest.
I wish I could test with the latest development release but I need this system intact for work and can't mess with it so much. Also please note I have not duplicated these symptoms on any other machine. If no one else is reporting it perhaps it is a hardware or setup specific issue (although someone else tagged it as being xorg-server problem a while back). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1168182 Title: Dual monitors messed up on restart from latest (April 2013) Ubuntu kernel update Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I updated 12.04 today, and it included some kernel updates and other stuff. Dual monitors become compressed/recentered onto one monitor on reboot. The only workaround seems to be to boot with only one monitor connected and then plug in the second after Ubuntu has completed reboot. Graphics card is an NVidia with dual DVI ports, processors is intel i7 Release is Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS release 12.04 What I expect to happen: Start normal What happens instead: One monitor of dual monitor receives no signal, the other appears to shift its normal display left half a screen, leaving the right half filled with the purple Dalek polka dot Ubuntu pattern. --- .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 304.88 Wed Mar 27 14:26:46 PDT 2013 GCC version: gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.6 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: precise DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GF104 [GeForce GTX 460] [10de:0e22] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: eVga.com.
