Title:
Create another plugin for indicator, don't touch status icon one

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I know, you've done this to make looks of the Notification Irea points more
consistent, but IMO you've broken any consistency. I've rarely used their
menues, but I frequently use opening after click which are provided by the most
apps using tray icons, so this behaviour is consistent and it's their primary
function. I've removed indicator applet because I find it pointless since it
still can't open chat window when I want to reply through the Empathy, so I've
just return the upstream notification are icon and happy with it. I completely
disagree with your indicator approach and it really hurts me when I can't open
RB by just clicking its status icon but is given a menu instead or I want to
reply to my buddy, choose the point but get a roster window instead of the chat
one.
My point: create your own "indicator plugin" which would act as you wish, but
keeps the upstream behaviour of status icon plugin.
