If you have removed applet from panel than you need add it back.  It
won't be added back automatically.

Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Just append after reboot after Linux kernel release

  Description:  Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS on i386
  Release:      12.04
  3.2.0-45-generic-pae 
  release 3.2.0.45.54

   apt-cache policy gnome-panel gives : (if it is gnome-panel, not sure)
  gnome-panel:
    Installé : 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1.1
    Candidat : 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1.1

  I do not know how to re-install that applet.
  No more panel list at bottom of the screen : very bad !
  I installed to replace gnome panel list the tool "fspanel"

  I refuse Unity, so reinstalled gnome as I could
  What should I install to get the list of applications running ?
