Hello Iain, I start system settings in the regular way, i.e. from the notification var in the upper right corner. I just have restored a saved image as this situation was unworkable for me, however I saved the logfiles in /var/log if that might be of any help. Beside the standard ppa's I used ppa's from Chrome and Dropbox, and used Grive in the past.
