The system recognizes the existence of the touchpad, in that I can use it, but it doesnt' give me any touchpad features (most specifically, I really want to be able to turn it off while typing so that my palm isn't making me skip all around all the time. This is a fresh install of 14.04, fully up to date. xinput list ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ ELAN Touchscreen id=9 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ SynapticsTouch Pad V 1.03U3 id=10 [slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HP TrueVision Full HD id=11 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=12 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HP Wireless hotkeys id=13 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HP WMI hotkeys Trying to use synclient in any way gives me: "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?" I've tried installing touchpad-indicator, but it seems to crash on trying to do anything. I've tried installing Pointing Devices, but it too seem to not do anything (though it recognizes the "SynapticsTouch Pad V 1.03U3"). Version: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.7.4-0ubuntu1 Fresh install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS What I expected to happen was that my touchpad would be recognized as a touchpad--what happened was that it seems to be recognized as a mouse? There are no touchpad options. I'll try to send the apport information if I can manage to do it right... --- ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-06-27 (2 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion 13 x2 PC Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.7.4-0ubuntu1 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-30-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=a4a43d74-2d0d-4355-9a1a-2f1cd0384ec2 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-30.54-generic 3.13.11.2 Tags: trusty ubuntu Uname: Linux 3.13.0-30-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True dmi.bios.date: 09/28/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: Insyde dmi.bios.version: F.05 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: 21A8 dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.board.version: 43.0C dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Chassis Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnInsyde:bvrF.05:bd09/28/2013:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPPavilion13x2PC:pvr097B100000405E00000320080:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn21A8:rvr43.0C:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct10:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: HP Pavilion 13 x2 PC dmi.product.version: 097B100000405E00000320080 dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard peripherals: /desktop/gnome/peripherals/SynapticsTouch@32@Pad@32@V@32@1@46@03U3: wheel_emulation = false device_type = mouse version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.52-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.15.1-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.8.2-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.3.0-1ubuntu3.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2 xserver.bootTime: Mon Jun 30 15:09:00 2014 xserver.configfile: /etc/X11/xorg.conf xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.version: 2:1.15.1-0ubuntu2 xserver.video_driver: radeon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1336086/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
