If I set the USB port as the output then Rhythmbox and the volume control work correctly and control the USB output. If I suspend and resume, then Rhythmbox will continue to use the USB device. The volume control however seems to revert to the internal speakers. Effect is music coming out but the volume control does nothing. Re- setting the output via the Sound control panel fixes the problem.
