It's affecting multiple users (me included and on two very different machines: a laptop (Dell Inspiron 7537 with GT750M graphics card ) and a desktop (ASUS M5A97 R2.0 board and GTX 260 graphics card)) and somebody probably ought to merge all of those apport-generated bug reports. Did you try:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-331-uvm --reinstall solution after the failed update and reboot?
