12.04, Unity, xrandr, garbage on screen when changing display modes

Bug description:
When I use xrandr to deal with last bug with display options saving (reported
here)
Unity launcher and top bar turns into garbage (random pixel noise).
These should be refreshed after display mode change. First interaction using
mouse refreshes them but until that they are a mess.
