This bug is affecting me too .It didn't happened on trusty but it's back in 
Utopic (14.10).
When I let the mouse cursor staying on the greyed browse button, a box appears 
where it's written that browsing is not avalaible "pysmb" not installed.
But, in fact, python-smb is installed. So, it's really bad and I can't use the 
workaround loisted above because I don't know how to enter the path manually.

Bug description:
  When installing a printer and selecting Window printer via samba the
  browse button is greyed out. The work arouns is to enter the path
  manually, and continue on with the installation
