As part of the big bug review for 16.04 LTS I have tested this on 15.10 and the bug is still there. I think this is a feature request rather than a bug.
Results are displayed as soon as typing begins. Either: 1) using the mouse 2) the keyboard arrows 3) tabbing until you got to the thing you are after. Back in 10.10 and before, a simple Alt-F2 meant a *very* quick launch because of suggestions auto-completed as soon as a unique name was found. I think this needs marking as a reversion?
