If one has a document with a more complex structure, such as different page ranges for frontmatter in roman and mainmatter in arabic, one wants to use the page labels instead. I've reported this to upstream, https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=756683 , and a patch has been proposed, this patch is for the evince master branch though, and my attempt at adapting it to 3.10.3 did not succeed.
