It's the same problem Thunderbird has: information is shown in the header which does not bring anything new, at least that's my opinion. Just look at the text in the header. What does it say extra that is not already in the list of e-mails you have just above, or next to it? From - look in field from in e-mail list To - obviously me, but could be more people, look in field To in e-mail list Subject - see Subject in e-mail list Date - same here.
So, why not completely forget about the header and give more space for either the e-mail list or the contents of the opened message? Especially on the new wide-screen monitors this would be very handy. Keep the window boundary to separate mail list from preview window and that's it. Erase the big grey area. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285401 Title: Enhancment request, compact headers on evolution message preview pane Status in The Evolution Mail & Calendaring Tool: Confirmed Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: evolution Operating evolution on modern netbooks is fine, the application is reponsive and well suited for these netbook machines. However screen real estate is at a premium given that for the most part the screens are only 1024x600. They are vertically challenged so to speak. When message preview pane is enabled, the message header display takes up about 20% of the available screen real-estate, as it lists 5 lines of information. I would be nice to have some control over the format of this display, allowing the format to be reduced to 2 lines 1) a line showing the from and to addresses. 2) a line showing the subject and date. A compact header display option would be a great benefit on these devices which are becoming more and more popular. If somebody wants to see the full header display they can open the message. It would also be worth examining the size of the "preferences" screens as they are often left with the OK/CANCEL/APPLY buttons off the bottom of the screen, this is particularly noticeable on the account setup screens, alternatively consider moving all the "action" buttons to the top of the panels. This class of device and screen size is exploding in usage, and is driving a large amount of the adoption of linux as manufactures attempt to reach the lowest price points by avoiding the use of licensed products that have fee based licensing terms.
