There is rhythmbox-client --play but that will only make an already existing RB play, NOT open a new one. I can think of several situations where it would be useful. The Alarm Clock Applet (http://joh.deworks.net/blog/?page_id=58), for example, acts as a wake up alarm and offers the possibility to launch a specific app for that purpose. It can launch RB, but it cannot make it start playing so it becomes useless to wake anyone up.
