It worked out of the box with Ubuntu 14.10. I tried various guides (editing /etc/modules and /lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules) but none of them worked. I finally stumbled upon a script (https://gist.github.com/rehno- lindeque/4500517) that made the modem usable (recognized by Network Manager), which does: usb_modeswitch -v 0x12d1 -p 0x1446 -M 55534243000000000000000000000011060000000000000000000000000000 -V 0x12d1 -P 0x1436 -s 50 -m 0x01 The downside is, I have to run the script every time i plug the modem in, would like a permanent solution.
