Dear Christopher It's a HP ENVY 17-j188ez. In the meantime I've noticed that the problem doesn't happen all the time, however I've not yet found out under which circumstances it happens.
Every night I put it into sleep by closing the lid. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems like if it stops working, it won't work at least until the next reboot (however, a reboot doesn't necessarily solve it for the moment. It *may* work after a reboot). I was also thinking if it may be related to updates (e.g. Kernel), because I'd say it usually works good for a few days, maybe up to weeks and then again there can be periods where it won't work whatever you try. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1583303 Title: Laptop not going to suspend when lid closed Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Release: 16.04 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: Installiert: 1:1.0.12-1build2 Installationskandidat: 1:1.0.12-1build2 Versionstabelle: *** 1:1.0.12-1build2 500 500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) What you expected to happen If in power options I have defined the laptop to go to suspend mode when laptop lid is closed, I would expect it to do exactly that. 4) What happened instead Nothing happened - the laptop remains on while the display switches off. I then tried the nvidia binary driver (361.42). For both GPU selections made in nvidia x server settings, Intel and nvidia, the laptop suspended few seconds after closing the lid. When I switched back to X.Org-X-Server the problem was back again.
