Strangely enough when I launched gnome-terminal this morning the issue appeared to be gone, still seems so, it is possible that it has been like that since yesterday or the day before and I just didn't notice. Was there an update which could have fixed this issue? If not, then probably it's only been since today that it works as it should, but I will keep an eye on it and let you know if it returns.
