I'm seeing the same problem on a fresh install of Xubuntu 16.04 on my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga.

The cursor jumps to wherever the mouse pointer is and starts typing from that point. Currently I cant type even three words straight without the third word getting inserted somewhere in between the earlier words or entire paragraphs getting deleted because of auto-selection... I tried setting PalmMinZ=100 in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-synaptics.conf but no luck after a reboot. According to this page : http://xps13-9333.appspot.com/#touchpad this was fixed in kernel 3.16 but I am on kernel 3.19 and the problem still exists.
