@ Christopher M. Penalver

Yes, doing exactly the same as above and with exactly the same symptoms.
Just that in my scanner model the bar moves to the idle position.

My latest comments were only to explain extra symptoms I see.

Title:
Simple Scan crashes after aborting one scan and starting another

Status in Simple Scan:
  Confirmed
Status in simple-scan package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I have an AIO Epson Stylus Office tx300f mutifunctional printer who
  has scanning function.

I was scanning a text. The Simple Scan software was working correctly
so, when I ordered to stop the scan, effectively the scanner stopped.
But the reader-bar of the scanner didn't move to idle position.

When I tried to do a new scan, Simple Scan stopped. Then it began
loading the preview for an undefined time, until it appears a message
telling that no scanner is available (https://goo.gl/S8DhSW)

Thank you so much by reading this and helping me on it.
