Public bug reported:

When I log in a gnome-flashback-metacity session, nautilus starts and I
see my desktop, but the panel does not start. I have to open a terminal
and start it by running '/bin/gnome-panel &'. Once I start it in the
terminal and close it my panels (top and bottom ones) appear just fine
with all the applets as they should be. As a fix, I placed a script in
my ~/bin directory which I configured to run at the start of each
session (using the "System Tools"->"Preferences"->"Startup Applications"
menu). I haven't been using ubuntu for some time, but I"m willing to
provide what information I can to get this bug fixed. Thanks.
