Second Dominik's post as not fixed. The hidden files are showing in Nautilus on 16.04 by default and when changed back do not stay like that.
My thanks to him, his suggested fix via Firefox Save dialog worked for me - I have tried many of the older suggestions - including resetting nautilus preferences and the archive fix above, but his was the only one that fixed this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1497545 Title: archive manager changes file manager default settings to show hidden files Status in file-roller package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Bug description: Ubuntu 15.04 file-roller 3.14.2-0ubuntu5 Reproduce: Open an archive and click extract. In the directory browser press Ctrl+H to show hidden folders. Cancel and close archive manager. Expected: This should have no effect on the file browser in general after archive manager is closed. Actual outcome: Hidden files and folders are shown by default every time a file manager window is opened. Workaround: Same as reproduce, this time press Ctrl+H to hide hidden folders. The setting applies to file manager.
