You have been subscribed to a public bug: Time from LightDM login to the actual usable desktop is too long, much longer than Natty's, taking something like 40s~60s and, after that, it still takes a little time to things like clicking the Ubuntu button bring the dash or clicking Firefox's icon making it twinkle (kind of reminds me of Windows...). It doesn't seem to be a problem with every Ubuntu installation. Oneiric on my friends laptop is as fast as Natty was in mine.
