Public bug reported: It seems that syndaemon is not working properly and never reactivates the tap-to-click functionality. The problem occurs only when I use the enter key to validate my password on the login screen. If I validate with the mouse, the touchpad is working correctly. (It took me hours of investigation to figure out why it was always working with guest account: because I do not use the keyboard to log in)
When broken, I make it work again with synclient TouchpadOff=0. In that case tap-to-click is not disabled when I use the keyboard. Syndaemon is running but seems to be stuck.
