I can hardly concur. On small screens it could easily lead to Nautilus'
interface clutter, besides, one cannot be sure if it would really make
it easier for _everyone_, not just for those who have gotten used to the
idea they presented.

In my opinion, this idea could be implemented as an option in
Preferences or some kind of (optional) plugin.

Title:
clicking on folder with open Nautilus instance should open in new tab

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
OS: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric stable 32-bit
  Application: Nautilus 3.2.1

When you open a folder placed on the desktop or open a desktop from
the Dash when an instance of Nautilus is already open, the folder
should open in a new tab instead of a new instance. This makes file
transfer, etc easier and reduces the clutter on the desktop.
