Khurshid and Mardy, thank you very much for your feedback. libaccounts-glib, libsignon-glib, signon, signon-plugin-oauth, signon- plugin-password, telepathy-accounts-glib (and a few more with more obvious K sounding names) are being kept because they are used in KDE Plasma.
Khurshid, is that sufficient for what you need? Or do you also need account-plugins? Mardy, I don't think there's a problem with ubports maintained stuff re- entering Ubuntu if it's maintained. It looks to me like ubports is currently focused on Xenial and PPAs which is a good approach too. The list of Unity8 related removals is much longer (see xnox's estimate in his merge proposal).
