Not going to make it a classic snap after all, but using the desktop-
gtk3 launcher fixes the issue too.

Bug description:
  Context:
  ubuntu 16.10 amd64
  libreoffice snap package

  Steps to recreate:
  Symptom 1:
  Use file open dialog: all non English (latin, ascii) (e.g. Arabic) filenames 
appear empty with file size 0 bytes

  Symptom 2:
  Doubleclick any non English (latin, ascii) (e.g. Arabic) libreoffice 
associated (.odt, .ods, ...) file, the correct libreoffice application will 
open then you will receive a file not found error with garbled file name in the 
error message.
