Pulseaudio fails to detect card

Bug description:
Consiistent behaviour. no sound after hibernation. FIles load and play OK,
but there is no sound. Alsamixer settings, devices, all
appear to be correctly set. However, the displayed elapsed time in smplayer
appears to go at double speed.
sudo alsa force-reload (solution given for 11.10) does not solve the
problem, whether on command-line or as script in
/etc/pm/sleep.d
In both cases, some of the modules fail to unload
