Reboot Try to log in to Ubuntu A black screen shows and you will get returned to the log in screen The systemd journal shows this error: gnome-shell: JS ERROR: Error: Requiring Gdm, version none: Typelib file for namespace 'Gdm' (any version) not found After applying the update ------------------------- You won't be able to uninstall gir1.2-gdm-1.0 without uninstalling gnome-shell. You should be able to log in to Ubuntu now from lightdm if gnome-shell and ubuntu-session are installed. Regression Potential ==================== None. This simply restores a dependency that was accidentally not restored earlier. The dependency was dropped in https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/3.24.2-0ubuntu5 but ultimately it ended up being too difficult to run gnome-shell without gir1.2-gdm-1.0 installed so the Ubuntu Desktop Team decided to use GDM instead of LightDM plus the GDM gir by default.
