OK - tried that, looked at the recorded video and the cursor was visible
on the recording even though it wasn't on the screen while the recording
was being made.

If we track it down we might have a bug report for recordmydesktop ...

  Draw cursor not showing

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  May be my graphics card if others are not seeing it.  Please tell me
  if you need more info.

  Problem is that whilst I can see the x- and y- markers as I move the
  mouse, the arrow2 pointer is only visible intermittently, and then
  only when I am over a 'handle' or other feature that changes the
  cursor image.
