An IP address is specific to a network interface, so one machine can have many IP addresses. This is probably why the IP address information is hidden behind the gear button for each network interface.
I agree this interface is unexpected after using Unity, but it does make good design sense. To see it go: Settings > Network > click on the gear button ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754691 Title: Missing IP address info in Gnome Network Indicator pulldown Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: In order to support end-users using Ubuntu over the telephone it is often necessary to request the user to tell you their IP address. In previous versions of ubuntu it was in two clicks Network, Network Status. For some reason this information is no longer available in 18.04LTS Beta 1. This makes it very difficult to support. It is unreasonable and not-secure for end users to be opening the terminal to identify the IP address. Even if that is how Windows does it, Ubuntu has always been better on supportability. Steps to reproduce: Click the combined Network, Volume, Power indicator dropdown Click Wired Connected Click Wired Settings No IP, MAC, Gateway information shown. No useful information at all in fact. What should happen: Click the Network Icon Click Network Information A dialog box (that you can copy paste from) with all the network information IP, MAC, Gateway are shown.
