What you are describing sounds most likely like Gnome Shell, where the mutter component chooses Wayland or X11. ** Package changed: wayland (Ubuntu) => mutter (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to wayland in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768764 Title: disable wayland by default - nvidia proprietary drivers backlight Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: With wayland can't control screen brightness using nvidia proprietary drivers. The screen brightness is always at 100%. Please DON'T enable wayland by default on fresh installations or updates because it's not 100% compatible with nvidia proprietary drivers. Nouveau still doesn't support backlight control on Pascal cards.
