Still an issue with FF ESR 52.9.0 and 8GB of RAM on Ubuntu 18.04. Grows like cancer from a few hundred MB at startup to 2GB+, gets laggy above 1.5GB, gets unusable at 2GB. Not killing the entire system anymore, but I can tell memory usage from zippyness of loading pages and reaction time of especially JS-heavy sites.

The system (of course) gets incredibly laggy because of somewhat silly I/O sizes, which creates full HDD load at the rate of less than 1 MB/s of throughput. A system load of 20/15/10 (2 cores) rapidly occurs. Moreover, mouse movement gets choppy and mouse acceleration stops working, keyboard inputs are barely accepted.
