Random system freeze when printing

Ubuntu 9.04
hpijs 3.9.2-3ubuntu4
Randomly, when printing to my HP Deskjet 6940, my Ubuntu 9.04 system
will freeze, requiring a reset/reboot to restore functionality. Cannot
even SSH into the frozen machine. I rebooted with ALT+SYSREQ+REISUB
and then looked at the message log via system->administration->log
file viewer->messages, the relevant portion being copied below:
