I upgraded from jaunty to karmic RC 2 days ago. My HP Photosmart C6280 (device URI hp://...) got automatically copied to a new printer with device URI "usb://HP/Photosmart%20C6200%20series?serial=MY7AOH23Z30506" (hp:// -> usb://). The hp:// printer did not work anymore, I could not issue to print a test page. From hp-systray, the printer was shown as disconnected or connection error. So I removed it, remaining only with the usb:// printer. Using hpijs 3.9.8.36, I can print a test page on the usb:// printer from the KDE4 System Settings -> Printer Configuration without problems. But: since then, hp-systray does not start anymore, but exits with the following output: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ $ hp-systray HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.9.8) System Tray Status Service ver. 2.0 Copyright (c) 2001-9 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it under certain conditions. See COPYING file for more details. warning: No hp: or hpfax: devices found in any installed CUPS queue. Exiting. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I guess, hplip should also recognize usb: printers, if they are using hpijs. Or KDE4 should keep recognizing hp: printers... If I change the usb:// into hp:// for the existing printer, I cannot print a test page. I get the message "Test page submitted as job XY", but the test page remains in the Document Print Status (systray printing queue) without any sign that the printer knows anything about the print job.
