Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket? If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug? If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once): apport-collect 465479 and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. After removing those drivers, CUPS can print just fine. Windows also works fine, so I suspect a bug in the hplip driver is crashing the printer somehow preventing it from working. I think I've heard reports of this upstream, but it's hard to navigate the hplip site so I can't be sure if this is fixed in a new release or not. Anyway this is obviously very frustrating, since it means a stock Karmic install will have major trouble with printing against HP printers like this one. I'm happy to test any new hpijs/hplip packages as needed.
