Hello Brian,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with hplip. You made
this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu has been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
bug report?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you let us know, and in the current version, run the
following (only once):
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.

Title:
Download of Hplip has multiple errors, system reads Unable to open
  device hp:/par/HP_LaserJet_5Si?device=/dev/parport0.

Status in hplip package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

  Printer is HP 5si

  Direct connection

Downloaded from Ubuntu Software as well as from other sites

I'm using a fresh install of 12.04LTS from factory disk onto a Dell
Optiplex 755 with 2 gig Ram and 300+- gig HD.

I've downloaded three times with the same results. Errors.

  Using DSL connection.

Also received " Unable to open device
  hp:/par/HP_LaserJet_5Si?device=/dev/parport0. "

http://hplipopensource.com/ is no longer an active page

The computer does communicate with the printer causing the printer to
print one line at the top of the page as follows

%!PS-Adobe-3.0%Produced by poppler pdftops version: 0.18.4
  (http://poppler.freed

Printer reacts by pushing all the paper in the tray through the
printer without printing anything additional. It is necessary to shut
off the printer to stop the printing. Yes I did go into the printer
control and delet the job as well.
